Big Little Book of Fabric Die Cutting
Award-winning quilter Ebony Love of LoveBug Studios is recognized as one of the leading experts in fabric die-cutting techniques and regularly produces free videos featuring tips and techniques for die cutting and quilting.
Today I get to share some great info about Ebony Love’s new book called The Big Little Book of Fabric die Cutting Tips. This is a fantastic resource book on die cutting machines, dies and tips on fabric, sewing and piecing.
Everyone who owns or is thinking about buying a die cutting machine should have this book in their library.
I own a AccuQuilt GO! Baby and also a Sizzix Big Shot and I really can’t say which I like the best. I decide which I will use according to what I want to cut. Most of the dies I have for the Big Shot are applique and for the Go Baby I have shapes like half square triangles. I wish I had a lot more dies but they aren’t cheap so I really try and think about what I will use one for before I buy it.
Here is a photo of both of my die cutters. The Big Shot uses two mats and the Go Baby uses one. Ebony calls the mats “consumables” because they must be replaced when worn……trust me…..you will know when to do this and I keep spares on hand. I thought I had a die going bad, the cuts weren’t clean but it was actually because my mat was worn out. I am showing two different applique dies, the Sizzix one is smaller than the AccuQuilt one.
I like both of them, it just depends on what you are creating. Here is a sample showing the difference in size.
Here is just chart from Ebony’s book that will really help you……and me.
Another great tip from Ebony – anything you put under the mat counts as a layer.
You can order this book from Ebony or read more about it here. There are over 250 pages of great information and it is spiral bound.
