I finished up this center piece yesterday which will be perfect on the table for Fall. It is a 24 inch square and the cute owl fabric is Fall Forest by Debbie Mumm which I have had in my stash since either last Fall or…..the year before. I know I made place-mats and a smaller center piece out of it when I bought the fabric.
This is my Free motion quilting piece for SewCalGal’s September FMQ challenge with Paula Reid. You can see what others did or post your link here. My center has a lot of puff because I first quilted it with one layer of Warm & Natural batting (no backing), then I trimmed off the batting close to the stitching. Then I pieced the whole center piece, added Warm & Natural batting and a backing and then quilted the piece. I did pebbling around the center.
Paula shared the center feather design (you can still get it by going to the link above). I traced the design on tulle with a Sharpie and then transferred it to the fabric by using one of my FriXion pens. I really love these and have had no problem using them. Once you have stitched your design just press with a hot iron and it disappears.
I decided to do some feathers in the corners…..I think they ended up looking like butterflies. I drew them with my FriXion pen and then did some loops to connect all the corners.
I took this picture last weekend when we drove through Geode State Park in Iowa. This park was the only place where the leaves had changed to such beautiful colors. This week we are starting to see them starting to change around here.
It has been a busy week and I haven’t done much quilting. This has been perfect weather to work outside on the yard and clean up along the river. Then yesterday I had my physical and afterwards coffee with a dear friend I don’t see very often. Everything was fine for my physical other than my Vitamin D levels keep dropping…………I have to go back on 50,000 milligrams of Vitamin D twice a week for 3 months………….we’ll see if that helps.
Today I’ve got some cleaning to do as we are having a party tomorrow night and it looks like this time the weather will cooperate with us for a bonfire. I’ll show you some pictures of my quilt studio tomorrow so you can see the little changes I made to it.
