A little Red, White and Blue

Today is my turn on the Red, White and Blue blog hop! (there is a giveaway – see the bottom of this post)

I love these folded windmills and did them a long time ago on a baby quilt. Making them this small meant a lot of bulk and my binding seam must have been a little big as it cut off the tips a little. If you would like to see a quilt tutorial on making the folded windmills – Click here where Sara at Let’s Patch it up has great directions.

Here is what my block looked like originally, I just sewed some 1 1/4 inch strips of red and white to it, then I decided to try a different design and use both folded windmill blocks.

I’m practicing on paper piecing…..starting with big blocks then I’ll work my way down. These were 6 inch blocks I drafted in Electric Quilt 7. I did some free motion stars on the red but they don’t show up.

I always enjoy the videos and patterns at Cozy Quilt Designs and this block is called Early Light. I added a little gold fabric and made a center piece which is 21 inches.

When I trimmed off the corners I sewed another 1/4 inch seam and ended up with a little pile of tiny HST’s……………..can’t waste them so…..

I made this little mug rug! Everything was made using fabrics from my old, old stash…..no new fabrics were cut up…………they are still safe for another day!

I want to thank Madame Samm from Sew We Quilt and Jane from Jane’s Fabrics and Quilts for organizing this fun blog hop and be sure and visit the other blogs!

Now how about a little giveaway! I’m giving away a charm pack of Jovial by BasicGrey for Moda.
I used this last year when I made my Winter Snowflake Centerpiece (link below) and will be using it again for the Think Christmas Blog Hop which starts July 30th.

Hey there Connie! Of course I'm a follower, and boy, am I glad! You always show us the most interesting blocks, patterns, and snippets of river life!

I love, love, love those folded windmills and I'm soooo glad you've provided a link to the tutorial! I aim to head there next, for sure! I even LIKE the "snipped off" tips – I think they add character, so I'm gonna try (probably won't have to try real hard, either!) to do that on all four corners!

I love that you used such a RED red and a deep blue, offset just right with that bright white! That contrast just makes that block POP!

I'd love to be entered in your giveaway, but that's ok if I don't win – I feel like a winner already for having been so inspired by your quilting! 🙂

The little pinwheel looks like it is about to start spinning at any minute and adds a fun element to the piece. I'm now a new follower who off to read some more of your previous postings. Thanks for the chance to win the pretty moda charm pack. I'm already trying to figure out what to do about Chritmas and I think I would use this to make a wallhanging as a gift.
    Sincerely,
    Tricia
