If you enjoy making pillows but don’t have the room for a whole bunch of them, you might be interested in creating a pillow band that can fit on any pillow you have. I made a simple cream pillow and then added a Lil Twister band to it.
A pillow band made with the Lil’ Twister template. Be sure and check out the pillow I made without a band.
Lil’ Twister Pillow Band Tutorial
I bought a cute charm pack called Spirograph by Benartex for my 5 inch squares, you could always cut 5 inch squares from your stash for this.
I love getting a email every day from Missouri Star Quilt Co. letting you know the Deal of the Day. I wish I could buy all of them! Lots of bright colors. I forgot to take a picture of the pack – you can see my River Whirls baby quilt tutorial that I cut with the big prints (I’ll post that soon).
Cut 14 – 5″ prints
Cut 14 – 5″ muslin squares
I took all the tone on tones and used them for a Lil’ Twister runner. This was very close to being another UFO.
Add a border
I put a 3.5 inch border on the runner. The table runner measured 15″ x 68″, which sound big but I knew it would shrink after I cut out the blocks.
Using the Lil Twister template
Now I had a runner that was 9½” x 46″ ……too long for me. I also noticed I had 2 blocks of the same color next to each other.
This is when it almost went into the UFO pile of blocks that never get finished pile.
Do you dream of quilting??
I dream about quilting all the time! Builder Bob dreams of building houses. Last night I woke up and thought that I could make a couple pillow bands with it. So I ripped out the seam between the 2 matching blocks. I added a 7 inch piece of muslin to each end, added Warm & Natural batting and quilted it.
I did a large squiggle loop in each lil twister print and then stipple quilted the background.
Finishing the pillow band
Then I took another piece of muslin the same size, placed my quilted top right side down on it and stitched around the sides. I left a opening about 4 inches so I could turn it right side out. Then I top stitched around it catching the opening seam in my stitching.https://conniekresin.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1253&action=edit
A couple pieces of Velcro were used to close it around my pillow. This makes it very easy to change out the band.
I think it looks better on a solid colored pillow. This is a pillow from our porch furniture which is a little small. The other pillow at the beginning is one that I made out of muslin. Now to use the other half of my runner – hmmmm – a different pillow coming up.
Simon and Bella are teaching Cricket bad habits. They are getting their drink of water and she can’t get in the tub yet. She tried to climb in the basket of hand cloths and down they came!
