This Vintage 1980 quilt has to be one of my oldest quilts. I only knew one woman who made baby quilts so I just kind of made up my “quilt” rules as I went. We still use this beautiful quilt!
I thought I would share another of my old quilts. This one was made around 1980 when I was finding all kinds of neat sheets that I thought would be perfect for quilts. I used full size sheets.
The white print was fabric I bought, the quality of it is not nearly as good as the sheets. I used a high loft batting to make this a comforter type of quilt.
The pattern kind of looks like a giant 9 patch repeat with some strips of the red sheet fabric to border it. I have a feeling I wanted to make a fast quilt. Can you see the large zig-zag stitching I used to hold the layers together? There is no binding, I sewed up 3 sides and then turned down the 4th side envelope style and top-stitched it.
This quilt has gotten a lot of use over the years and continues to hold up well. It is a favorite for picnics or when you just want a warm, cuddly quilt. It will never win any awards and isn’t perfect…..which doesn’t matter.
