When you live on the river you never know what is going to come by. It is very common to see lots of buoys float by that have broke loose because of ice.
I love the way the sun is reflected off the ice in this photo. I have a hard time taking photos as we face south and if the sun is out it’s hard to get a good photo of the river.
This is the Mississippi River, we live in Iowa and Illinois is on the other side. Our weather has been warmer than usual and the ice started thawing. My brother and sister-in-law are enjoying their first winter in their new home next door and my brother is loving the sounds of the ice breaking up. I’ve been here for almost 9 years and it is a sound I have taken for granted. He has made me appreciate it again.
Here is a closeup of a Illinois buoy, see how beat up it is! Iowa buoys are black and kind of square looking. When spring gets here a tow will go up and down the river and pick them all up and put them back where they belong. You will see eagles sitting on the ice as it floats by and I hope to get a picture of that.
I am standing down by the river looking up at our house, my brother’s house and a neighbors. The houses are all built up so we don’t have to worry about flooding, if we get any water at all it will be in the garage/basement. I love my little jeep Liberty, all the guys go for trucks. My husband Bob completed my brother’s house in time for them to be in for Thanksgiving, yep he is Builder Bob. Now when I look at the houses and the roof lines I think of Goldilocks and the three bears……..we are baby house, my brother is mama house and the neighbor is papa house.
Quilting – I am working on my bed runner and have it quilted, now I just need to put on the binding to complete my UFO for the month.
