It always seems funny to me to start working on Holiday projects when it is almost 100 degrees outside but if I don’t…….Christmas seems to be here before I know it!

Holiday Happenings Table Runner

This month the Island Batik ambassadors are working on all kinds of neat Christmas projects and quilts! This was a quick little project that I finished the other day…..actually, I worked on two projects at once. I’ll share the other one soon.

My plan when I made the blocks was to do some detailed free motion quilting with some variegated thread called Fantastico from Superior Threads. The thread is beautiful but I haven’t figured out how I would like to use it. I started doing some stipple quilting on my other project and didn’t care for it so…….I spent a little time out on the deck picking out stitches.

The plan for fancy quilting got vetoed and I decided the blocks needed something extra so I used a fancy blade in my rotary cutter and cut some strips of fabric to add to the design.

I did some free motion applique to apply the strips and then quilted both projects with a neutral thread.

I know I have mentioned this many, many times but I really love being an ambassador for Island Batik. Their fabrics are beautiful and I never seem to get tired of working with them!

  1. Connie, That’s gorgeous. I adore the fancy cut on the strips. It give it such a delicate or almost snowflake look.

  2. What a lovely collection of batiks! I have very few holiday batiks, so my mouth is watering! I hear you with the 100+ degree weather. The weather service issued heat warnings for all week here. I really like your table runner and that pretty potholder! The wavy applique is a fun touch–must put it in my “ideas to try” file. Stay cool!!!

Another lvely runner. Looking forward to the tutorial and really like the scalloped strips.

  4. I like. And I agree it is odd to be working with Christmas fabric in the middle of summer but I like that I don’t feel pressured since there isn’t a deadline looming.

  5. Really do love this runner Connie. Beautiful colors in these fabrics. Using the fancy blade in your cutter really added something extra. Very nice.

  6. You are so right…Christmas has a way of sneaking up on us. I really like the fancy cutting on those strips in your nice runner.

  7. You and Island Batiks are a perfect marriage. Love your table runner in traditional Christmas Red and Green. Unpicking all those stitches must have been quite a chore however you were able to sit on your deck with Iggy and enjoy Summer weather.

  8. a great little runner Connie 🙂
yeah here when school starts, I have kid birthdays, then all the holidays mesh together and life gets busy.
