Fast and Easy Mini Table Topper Tutorial

I thought I would share a mini table topper with you that I just finished. Either that is a giant candle……..or a teeny tiny table topper!!!
Fast and Easy Mini Table Topper Tutorial
Size is 10″ x 18″
This isn’t really much of a tutorial, it is more me sharing what I did with some leftover mini half-square triangle blocks that I didn’t want to throw away. Are you like that?
Are you wondering where I got the idea for this? Well, I finished a quilt project made from a charm pack and had two pinwheel blocks left over. I can’t find that quilt project but if I do, I’ll add a link. I also made the Twirling Stars baby quilt using these cute fabrics, that is a fun project!
Good use for leftover quilt blocks
I really didn’t want to throw them into my huge box of leftover blocks (it is pretty darn full).
- (6) 2½-inch half-square triangle squares
- (2) 2½-inch cream squares
Sew (2) quilt blocks made up of (3) half-square triangles and (1) cream square. Each quilt block will measure 4½-inches.
- Cut (1) cream square that is one inch bigger than the block size
- That will measure 5½-inches
- Cut the square in half on the diagonal
Stitch to the half-square triangle block using the 5½-inch side as shown.
Stitch it together as shown and…..a small table topper!
Next you’ll want to add your batting and backing and quilt it as desired. I did some stipple quilting with Glide thread on my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine. Then I trimmed the mini table topper.
Mini Table Topper Binding
Measure around your mini table topper and add 6 inches to get the amount of binding you will need. My binding was cut 2 1/2″ wide and applied by machine using my 15-91 vintage Singer.
Mitering the binding on angles like this can be tricky. You can see that one of my corners is a little wonky and I had better fix it.
This would make a great little gift with a candle or flower basket…..I think I’ll see what other blocks I have sitting around!

What a good idea for using left-over blocks.
The light on Iggy was really pretty. I always feel kind of sad when the last of the fall leaves drop. I have a red maple outside my kitchen bay window that has been glorious this fall and it is nearly bare today. Now we are down to one last golden tree in the front yard that still has leaves.
Your little table topper is pretty cute. It would look great on top of a bedroom dresser.
