Last week I made a beautiful batik table runner and liked it so much that I had to make another one! This is a quick tutorial for the Desert Path table runner.

I’ve been making all kinds of Drunkard’s Path blocks with a new group of batiks from Island Batik and the AccuQuilt GO! 4″ Drunkard’s Path die.

Cutting

Each table runner will use the following:

  • cut (6) 4½-inch squares
  • make (12) 4½-inch drunkard square quilt blocks

I’m still not sure which one I like the best. I hope you enjoy this easy Desert Path Table Runner tutorial.

The beautiful batiks I used for the table runners are from Island Batik’s new Fall collection called Desert Rose but you can use any charm square collection.

This table runner is made from an assortment of fabrics in the group while the other runner was made using the same fabric for the Drunkard’s Path blocks and the plain blocks.

This table runner is very easy to make and the tutorial is really only a diagram to show you how to lay out the blocks for the design as it only uses 12 Drunkard’s Path blocks and 6 plain blocks.

My table runners are 12″ x 24″

I used the AccuQuilt GO! #55338 Drunkard’s Path die which makes a 4″ finished block.

If you would like to make the table runner and don’t have the AccuQuilt dies you can find several different templates for the Drunkard’s Path blocks.

When I was taking pictures I started seeing all kinds of possibilities for other designs!

I may have to make a large quilt using something like this!

This table runner makes me feel like Spring is here.

I really think this one is my favorite though.

I also made an 18-inch easy Drunkard’s Path quilted pillow that you might like or maybe a Drunkard’s Path baby quilt that is made with 3½-inch quilt blocks.

  1. Love the table runners! I love curved piecing and I have been looking for something simple for a Christmas runner – I like this enough that I will use this pattern. Thank you so much for sharing! Hope you're getting better with each day…

  2. Colorful, Connie…..love your new runner. So glad you are feeling better.

You did get hit hard with the flu…sure hope it is the last time for many years that you get sick! Praying that you regain your strength quickly!!

  4. Pretty table runners. And I like the idea of a larger quilt too. Thanks for the tutorial and feel better soon.

  5. Createology says:

Each one as lovely as the other! May your home be free of flu bugs. Happy Thanksgiving Season…

  6. Very pretty runners Connie. I don't know if I could choose which I like more myself so I don't blame you at all. They are both really pretty.

I'm sorry I missed your post about being sick. 🙁 I do hope you'll be back to feeling normal and can find the rest of your energy soon. Curt and I both were fighting over our bathroom for about 2-3 days last weekend. Wasn't much fun when you only have the one, especially when both are sick. It was really 'fun' when the kids and Alexia were living here and more than two were sick. LOL

From your last post I just took a peek at ~ I can't believe the price places charge to take kids like that one. So frustrating and a block from many who just can't afford those prices.

Are you having Thanksgiving at your house? I sure hope you are back to normal by the time you have to get all that cooking started. There's nothing worse than having to make that big meal when you aren't feeling your best.

  7. Lovely table topper, and a great way to practise Drunkard's Path blocks. (You've clearly got sewing curves in your fingertips; it's me who needs to practise!)

  8. Love your new runners!!! So beautiful with all those colors. Hope you are feeling better! It seems to hang on for quite awhile. Take care! Hugs

  9. I had a feeling you weren't out of the woods yet with the flu. So sorry everyone got hit with it but I hope you are truly all (as in completely and ALL of you) recovered now. These runners are gorgeous and I could definitely see a full size quilt with the beautiful patterns the drunkard's path makes. Snow? Yikes!! I hope it stays away from us for awhile yet.

So happy to see you are feeling better Connie…..The colors in the table runners are so full of magnificent hues, it would be difficult to say one is prettier than the other. I don't think I could make a choice. I can't wait to see more projects made with this fantastic collection of batiks. We woke up to a beautiful covering of snow this morning, about 2 inches so far, but there is more predicted, quite a lot more if the weatherman is to be believed.

  11. Vicki in MN says:

You guys did get hit hard with the flu, enough of that already-no more for the season! Your runner is gorgeous, yes you should make a bigger quilt with that pattern going on. We had a dusting of snow that stuck to the grass. Did you get much?

  12. Sharon - IN says:

Another beautiful table topper, Connie. The fabric really makes this quilt! Sorry you had a bout with the flu, grand daughter too. 🙁 But glad you are both over it.

  13. I feel for you and the illness in the family – we haven't had the flu, but it seems like every virus floating around has cycled thru us though. I haven't done the drunkerd's path in a long time and a runner would make for a nice small project.

  14. Your runners are really beautiful. I hope that all of you start to feel better soon.
