Do you remember my Paper piecing Love it or Hate It!  post when I asked if you love or hate paper piecing?

Well I finished up my block and just made it into a small wallhanging that is about 18 inches
square. I used some of my leftover Budding Blooms stack of batiks from Island Batik. and the pattern is called Celestial Star by Diane Bohn and information about it can be found on her blog From Blank Pages.

This will hang in my quilt room to remind me that I do enjoy paper piecing…..once in awhile. Here is a closeup of the quilting I did with my vintage 15-91 Singer.

Paper Pieced Celestial Star in Batiks

Yesterday we spent another day out on the Mississippi river. The weather was perfect and we had a great time with friends. Lunch was at Ducky’s in Andalusia, IL.

Build Bob on the riverWe saw this neat log in the water (not a very good photo) and it looked like it was wound around a rock. We couldn’t get any closer, I’ll have to see if I can go out with my brother in his mud boat and get a better look at it.

Today I’m staying home and will quilt.

  1. your wall hanging is gorgeous

  2. Very nice little quilt, Connie. Great colors and the quilting is lovely. I've not done enough paper piecing to perfect the method so I'm sort of hanging out on the fence about whether I like the process or not. lol My one day I'll get busy and do enough of it to decide.

I like your paper pieced project, bright and cheery, with really nice quilting too! Like you, I do like paper piecing – once in a while. But there sure are some great designs out there that are easier to accomplish with paper piecing!

That turned out really bright and cheerful-it'll be great hanging in your room in the middle of winter!!

  5. Beautiful work Connie. LOVE those colors. So bright and happy looking.

Wow your Celestial Star is gorgeous in batik fabrics. Another great day outdoors and enjoying life.

  9. Very stunning! Well done 🙂

  10. That paper pieced project is gorgeous. Makes me want to finish the one that is laying on my sewing table. I like the fabrics in yours and am NOT liking the fabric choices I made for mine, which is probably why I set it aside this summer.

  11. It came out beautifully. I can't believe you fmq'd it on your vintage singer. Today, I've been practicing FMQ on my Janome and am wondering if I'll ever get the hang of it. Perhaps if I practiced more than sporadically. Have a great afternoon!
