Scattered quilt in different colorways

Yesterday I showed you my Scattered quilt pattern in blues and browns. I have a couple of other colorways that you might like. Both of these were made without a border.  I used a variety of batiks that I had in my stash and black batik for the sashing.

Using black fabric with batiks is so beautiful!

Scattered in different colorways

This is my rainbow-colored Scattered quilt and is actually the first one I made.

I have a couple of friends that have been waiting and waiting for this pattern. I used batiks (surprise, surprise) for the blocks and muslin for the sashing. Many times I mix batiks, muslin, and regular quilt cotton together.

So……can you see how different this quilt can look just by changing the binding and colors? Which do you like better? There is another colorway a little further down. If you missed my original post about the Scattered pattern you can find it here.

When I went out yesterday evening to take the photos guess what I saw…….geese….lots of them and babies!

When they saw me coming they decided it was time to leave. I had to watch where I was walking and no way could I lay a quilt in the grass.

I love watching the geese but prefer to see them out in the water. They are a little hard to see but there are about six different families of them in the photo.

Here is my latest Scattered quilt which I just finished piecing last week. This one is entirely made from red and burgundy fabrics that have been in my stash for…….gosh…..years and years. Believe it or not…….there isn’t a batik in the group! This quilt is also larger. My intentions are for it to fit a twin bed with a good overhang on it. More on this when it is quilted.

Several weeks ago I signed up with Instagram and……I am still learning to use it. My phone takes beautiful photos…..many in this post are taken with my phone.

Anyway, I still need to figure out the hashtags and all the other things you can do with Instagram. One thing I just found is this cute little widget! I have one on the right side of my blog about halfway down and it has a slide show of the photos I post on Instagram. Follow FreemotionByTheRiver on Instagram and if you have any tips for using it please let me know!

Take a look at Scattered made with the Origins fabrics or look at Scattered made as a mini.

  1. Hi Connie,
Have you any pictures of “Scattered” with a color used as sashing? I’m thinking of doing it with blue.

  2. Beautiful!!! All very beautiful. It’s hard to pick a favorite. I believe they are all my favorites. So nice.

  3. Robyn in Australia says:

The scattered designs are so versatile. Making a table runner or small quilt will be a great learning experience. Choosing the fabric colours will be fun.

  4. Each one is so different and special. I can’t wait to use up more of the stash and start using batiks again. I have a small shopping bag of batiks that I use VERY sparingly. (Back to the present…)

  5. I love the one with the black sashing, it looks like a stain glass window that you might see in a church.
I bought that pattern last fall, still haven’t made it yet. I have been making masks, so I still haven’t caught up on my quilts.

  6. Where can I purchase the stain glass quilt pattern

  7. Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow says:

These are all gorgeous! I think that I like the black sashing one the best but that is because it's almost like stained glass with the batiks. Yet, the other one reminds me of gorgeous tiles…they are all amazing!

  8. great quilts, can't believe you made all those! you need testers to do it too 🙂 uhh instagram, I "should" look into that too, since I just got my first cell phone about a month ago, but then it's just another thing for the phone, that's addicting already 🙂

  9. Beautiful! The jewel colored one reminds me of stained glass, withe the black sashing. Just gorgeous!

You never cease to amaze me with your design sense. I love this pattern and the jewel toned one is breath taking.

  11. Sorry about all the duplicate posts. It's storming out and my computer is doing really weird things!

  12. Okay, okay. I will be over sometime next week to buy this pattern. I love the jewel toned one.

Wait until you see my newest Goodwill treasure. It's a toy black Singer sewing machine complete with little sewing box. The box has bobbins, a pair of scissors, a sewing sample and directions. I don't even know if it works but it was SO cute and best of all only $2.88!

Love this pattern and I have a thing for jewel tones with black…looks like a jeweler spilled out precious stones on black velvet…YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Esther Aliu says:

What a wonderful and versatile pattern. Yes, the fabric really does reinvent the style each time! I love them ALL but I am leaning towards the last red medley one. And no, I thought it WAS a batik so you've surprised me. This is totally gorgeous in every way. Love it!

  17. Carole @ From My Carolina Home says:

The more I look at this, the better I like it. What a great pattern to quickly use up some stash for charity quilts. I just bought the pattern, as I know how hard and time consuming it is to write patterns!

  18. Carole @ From My Carolina Home says:

That black background is very striking with the batiks. Lovely!!

  19. These are all beautiful, Connie. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. The red one, however, brought to mind that I was gazing down at a brick patio of various shades of brick and thinking it could be an interesting quilt. Your pattern might be just the ticket. Hmmmm.

  20. Each version of Scattered is beautiful Connie! I think I love the jewel tones with black sashing most, but I am always a fan of red.
If only geese did not leave poop all over, then we wouldn't mind them at all.

  21. glassbylindi.blogspot.com says:

I like them all but the black sashing makes the colors pop! L

  22. While they are all lovely, I think the blues are my favourite.

  23. Apple Avenue Quilts says:

This is a wonderful pattern. I was just about to declare the one in brights my favorite when I came to the red one and that one. I really love that color way. Congratulations on such a lovely pattern.

  24. Scattered is a very versatile pattern—just how I like things. Thanks for designing the pattern for all to enjoy and for sharing your various interpretations. All your quilts make me smile.

  25. wonderful selection…..you have the Scattered fever I think! I plan on adding this one to my list of desires for a future project. Love them all but the red is calling my name!

  26. Adele Hoyt says:

Connie the Scattered Pattern is just grand! Thanks for sharing the different color waves! Well Done!

  27. Just found your blog and signed up with Bloglovin. Love your new quilt! I happened to see the mention of your Dad's severe nosebleeds. Please pardon me if this is unwanted, but my mom suffered with the same type of severe nosebleeds for several years. Her ENT did a biopsy from her nose and she was diagnosed with Wegener's Granulomatosis. It is a rare disease. You might want to ask his doctor about it if he has not already ruled it out. Best wishes for your father's good health!

  28. These are all fantastic!
BTW the instagram widget thingy-is that supposed to go to instagram? 'Cause it doesn't :p

  29. Well Connie, you KNOW already this version of your Scattered quilt was going to be calling my name with my love of purple. I LOVE that one. Gorgeous.

Watching the geese is always a fun thing, especially when they have their little babies following them like they do. Sadly, they do leave quite the mess in the grass. 🙁 I sure don't blame you for not wanting to put the quilts on the ground.

  30. Vicki in MN says:

Oh Connie, they are all just beautiful, I fell in love with the first one-my kind of colors, but then saw the bright nmodern version-tough pick for sure!!

  31. Those are beautiful too, Connie. The reds would be my favorite in today's quilts. It reminds me of a brick road.
