Quilt Stars along the River

I finished up the mini quilt that I showed you here  and the stars look perfect along the river. I had used the last of my Quilted in Honor fabrics by Island Batik and made up the binding just to make sure I had enough. Would you believe this quilt is only 15 inches square! Lots of little pieces.

Have you ever tried the Clover Wonder Clips? I bought one pack and then bought another (one isn’t enough) and have to admit that I really like using them. I always sew my binding on by machine and it is so easy to unclip them.

Here I am sewing on the binding on my 15-91 Singer, the same machine that I use for piecing and free-motion quilting.

Here is a quick look at the back and the quilting. I used my Glide ivory thread on the front and back. I’m going to have to buy more of that soon!

If it wasn’t for the deck boards you wouldn’t know this quilt was really only 15 inches square!

Recently Electric Quilt had a contest in which we designed a quilt in EQ using Island Batik’s Quilted in Honor fabrics. I didn’t win but……if you have Electric Quilt you can download all of the designs that were entered for free! Just click here. My design is actually on page 2. My challenge now is to actually make the design!

Last night the weather was beautiful and it was a perfect night for burgers on the grill. The grill is just about shot and we are hoping to make it through the rest of the year. Then it will be time to buy a new one…..hopefully on sale.

  1. I love the Quilt Stars along the River, your quilting makes the background look embossed and the stars stand out so nicely.
I love the spinning stars pattern, I was making it to go along with other quilt pieces but I’m having back trouble so I haven’t been able to sit to sew in awhile.
I hope you make a video using your 15-91, I’d love to see you free motion quilt on it! I just love those Vintage Singers.

I am always amazed by what you do with your beautiful old machines. The star quilt is so stunning, Connie!

Such a cute quilt Connie! I love how you used the same fabric for the background, and how the border blends in, with the dark blue squares coming to the foreground. It's a really neat border idea, I like it a lot! It's hard to believe you need to buy a grill, it looks new from the photo! 🙂 I just looked at it and thought what a nice grill you have!

  4. That is such a pretty little quilt. I love the clover clips, too. Did you know they make big ones, too? Haven't used those but I think they've been out for awhile.

  5. Very pretty mini quilt. I really would have never guessed it was so small, so am quite impressed by the stars now that I know how tiny they are. Those wonder clips are great. I used them on bindings all the time and they save a lot of strain on my hands.

Very sweet little quilt. I am sorry yours did not win. Creative Island Batik Bliss…

  7. Love your little quilt! Not sure how much you paid for your grill originally, but I just replaced parts on our grill that was fairly expensive 10 or 12 years ago and now it is good as new for about $150.00!

    Wonderful little quilt.

My mouth is watering over that mini quilt AND those burgers!

  10. Sweet little quilt, I especially like how the late day (or was it early morning?) sunglow shows on it in the first pic. My daughter gave me some of those clips for Christmas last year and I enjoy using them very much. I haven't bound anything yet, but have clipped cut fabric groups and blocks together.

  11. Hello Connie,

This little quilt is exquisite in every way, and it's lovely to see your Singer 15 in action.
Would you like to join in the linky on my blog, Free Motion Mavericks? It runs from Friday to Monday. It would be great to see you there.

    Love, Muv

PS. I use hairgrips when I'm putting on the binding.

Great little quilt. How is it that a BBQ wears out so fast when it is hardly used? Ours is going to need to be replaced too and it is only a couple of years old.

  13. Lovely project Connie. The river makes a lovely setting for your photos.

  14. I your little quilt!
