I seem to spend a lot of time either sitting in front of my sewing machine or my computer. I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been gaining weight and it is driving me crazy plus I’m getting all kinds of aches and pains. I decided it was time to do something about it so…….I bought myself a Fitbit Flex so I can see how many steps I actually take in a day. I’m having fun using it and find it a great incentive so I applied to them to be an affiliate. You will see links to their site while I share my experiences with you.
I used to think I was walking quite a bit going from my cutting table to the sewing machine, then the iron……..not very many. I quilted the other morning and by 10 am I only had walked 680 steps……you are supposed to walk 10,000 steps a day……….I’m in trouble!
Fitbit.com has a website that you sign up for and it tracks your steps, sleep activity and you can add your food and water. I saw that Pioneer Woman posted her data the other day so I’ll show mine from yesterday.
The first thing I did was put in my weight and also a goal of what I wanted to lose. There are 3 different categories for weight loss, I chose a slow one which allows you more calories since it is summer and we seem to eat out more. Notice I did my 10,000 steps!!
There are 3 different styles of trackers and I chose the Flex which goes on your wrist. It is waterproof so you don’t have to remove it when taking a shower and at night it tracks my sleep. The Flex syncs with my computer and smart phone. The others clip to your waist or bra but I knew I would forget to put it on all the time.
I usually try to walk at least 2 miles around our little town every day but I did something to my knee which makes going up and down the steps and walking on gravel very painful so I got out my Leslie Sansone: Walk Away the Pounds Ultimate Collection and I have been using it to get to my goal of 10,000 steps. I actually bought this DVD last fall and used it a couple times and quit.
There are 4 different walks and the first one is the 1 mile walk. I figured I had to this one until it was easy before I moved to the next one…..that isn’t how it works. The 1 mile walk is actually for the days when you only have 15 minutes and need to get in a quick walk. I actually like the 3 mile walk the best but some days I do the 2 mile in the morning and then the 1 mile in the afternoon if I see I’m not going to get enough steps in.
I don’t want to do push-ups or sit-ups……my old body just doesn’t care for that kind of exercise and this DVD is low impact and she always tells you if you get tired or can’t keep up to just walk in place and yes, I have don that.
After I bought my Flex I also bought some Fitbit bands in other colors just because they are pretty. I think they have 10 different colors.
It really surprised me to see how little I actually walked in a day but so far I have gotten my 10,000 steps in every day since June 20th. Have I lost weight?? Not yet but I’m feeling better. Last night I was short 1,000 steps so I did some walking on our deck until my Flex buzzed me that I had hit 10,000 steps. I’ll keep you posted on my progress! Now I am going to go do a 2 mile walk and then work on a couple projects for a blog hop that is coming up.
