Here is a little mug rug that I made using some leftovers from other projects.

I think it makes an interesting design and….my coffee cup likes it!

I have combined a batik and a regular fabric. You can read the post here

It is a Quilt in a Day book called Day & Night Quilt and INCLUDES the acrylic template needed to make this design. I have always liked her books – lots of pictures – lots of detail. Everything is cut in strips to begin with.

I ended up with quite a few leftovers because I washed my fabric before cutting and in the directions you are told exactly how long the strips need to be and…..washing/drying does shrink it. Eleanor Burns books are always full of details and I wish I still had my original Quilt in a Day Log Cabin book she wrote over 30 years ago. Have you ever used any of her patterns?

You end up with leftovers and there are projects for using them. It might be time for me to get the book back out and make something new. Of course that would mean I would have NEW leftovers……and the cycle begins again!

I just finished a king sized quilt top using this pattern. Thank you for more ideas for the left overs. I want to make the recipients of this quilt a table runner, etc. from the left overs. Check mine out at http://teresasquiltjourney.blogspot.com. Love yours!

  2. Yum . . . it makes me think of a broken up Hershey bar, which would go great with your cup of coffee!

My first quilt as an adult was the Log Cabin quilt in a day. I think I gave it to my ex husband's wife because she wanted to learn to quilt.

I made the night and day block for the Farmer's Wife. I did it paper piecing but yours looks so much simpler.

  5. Those look great! I bought the book and I think I need to add it to my list of templates to use list. I haven't thought about it lately.

  6. Oh how neat Connie. I almost bought that book, Day and Night but opted for another instead. I do like Eleanor's style.

The first quilting book I bought ever was one of hers, the Christmas at Bear Paws Ranch. I just bought a few others recently along with a DVD for one too.

  7. She is a great teacher too. Her classes are always a kick. Your Day and Night look great.

I have always loved this pattern, and you are right about Eleanor Burns…….she makes things very precise and I understand her directions better than most other patterns. I have loved meeting her the past two years in Houston! Your's have turned out great………AS USUAL!

  9. oh I didn't know the template came with it, You'd like the "kaleidoscope the smart way" book too with template by Sharon sebrow, cool kaleidoscope blocks from HSTs… I love her book, in fact it's been a while, since I played with it, maybe it's time to play again….

  10. You can't go wrong with an Eleanor Burns pattern. My Mom has all her books and finds them helpful for new quilters – just being comfortable in reading and following a pattern.
