Breezee Pillow Tutorial

I am always trying to use up the scraps from a project…..I made my Breezee Schnibble quilt using Summer Breeze by Sentimental Studios for Moda and even though it was made from charm packs……I had scraps…..small scraps.

I thought I had a photo of all the scraps but I can’t find it. I took all the small strips and pieced them together in strips that I then cut into 4 – 1/2 inch squares. Why 4 – 1/2 inch blocks…..well most of the little strips were only 4 – 3/4inches long. I then cut some white blocks 4 – 1/2 inches.

I used a Frixion pen to mark a line down the center which is the cutting line and then I marked a line 1/4 inch on each sides for the stitching line. You can see in the photo how the strip pieced fabric was layered beneath the white.

Carefully cut on the center line and press.

Once I had all my blocks done I trimmed them to a 4 inch square.

I had enough blocks to make this design……I actually ended up with 4 leftover blocks for another project.

Cut 4 – 4 inch white blocks and then stitch together with a 1/4 inch seam. You can see below the way I like to see the blocks together.

Here is the finished block…..I decided to make a pillow out of mine.

I used Warm & Natural batting and a walking foot to stitch straight lines on the pillow. Since I didn’t have anymore of the Summer Breeze fabric I used a blue from my stash……remember country blue??

This is a 13 x 13 inch pillow. The pillow looks a little lumpy….my pillow form is a little small and I’ll have to make another one that fits better. I put a zipper in the back and forgot to put a flap over it….normally I just do the overlap on the back of a pillow.

I think this looks like a pretty modern pillow!

I LOVE the Summer Breeze collection! I wish I could make a quilt for my bedroom with these fabrics. Unfortunately, with a queen-size bed, my budget won't allow it. 8-( Love your pillow though.

  4. You're so clever! Such pretty fabric, even the white has a pattern to it that goes so well. You said you used Warm & Natural. Did you use a backing or did you quilt just the two layers?

  19. I love it. A perfect companion to the quilt and they are such pretty fabrics.
Question: How is it that there are always scraps left over from making something with scraps. Are scraps related in any way to coat hangers? lol

  20. What a great idea for scraps. Your pillow turned out great. I heart pin wheels.
