Would you like to learn how to make a cute Halloween candy corn centerpiece? This is a tutorial for a Halloween table topper but you could easily change the colors and make it for any season.

I’m having fun making a few things for Halloween. I wanted to make a centerpiece that looked like candy corn. I didn’t have a pattern – just created as I made it.

I have included applique kitties on my centerpiece, if you don’t like doing applique just exclude them.

Approx 19 inches

Cutting the fabric for the blocks

Cut

I cut 3 different colors into 2.5-inch strips.

Then I cut the pieces into triangles. I used the 60-degree
mark on my ruler.

Here is a closer picture so you can see that I place the 60-degree mark on the bottom of the strip and then cut the pieces.

When I got the 6 triangles I realized it wasn’t going to look like candy corn when I sewed them together.

So I cut some black solid into 1.25-inch strips and sewed the black between the pieces. Make sure to leave a little overhang so you don’t come up short.

Here I am adding the last strip.

It kind of looks like a Bull’s Eye! I didn’t get my strips lined up perfectly.

Then I cut 3-inch strips and put a border on.

Finished piecing……I can see the candy corn pieces now.

Then I decided to add some scary Halloween cats to it using my Sizzix Big Shot and my Cat & Moon die.

You could also do a search for Halloween graphics and put something like that on the table topper.  Sizzix has several different dies that could be used for Halloween.

I only put 3 cats on so it wouldn’t get to busy looking. I used the orange fabric for the backing and Warm & Natural for the batting.

Originally I was only going to free motion applique the cats and do the black areas.

I didn’t like it so I quilted the whole thing changing colors of thread for the different areas.

I cut my binding 2.5 inches and sewed it to the front side, then I folded it to the back and stitched it down from the front using my easy machine binding tutorial.

Here is a photo of the back – pretty busy but no one will be looking at this. I had fun experimenting and it turned out better than I thought.
